Guiberteau Saumur Rouge
""The whites have obvious class and demonstrate all the potential for white-wine production in Saumur. The reds, not to be outdone, capture a unique expression of Cabernet Franc that surpasses all expectations. This is a departure for the real or supposed spirit of Saumur, with a quality of fruit that puts them alongside the greatest wine in France, be they from Burgundy, the Languedoc or Bordeaux."
Founded at the beginning of the 20th century, today it is in the hands of the founder’s great grandson, Romain Guiberteau. Since 2000, under Romain’s guidance he has abandoned chemicals in the vineyard, preferring biodynamic management. His father remarked on the quality of the fruit under his direction. Influences such as Clos Rougeard, Dagueneau and Thierry Germain abound when you dig and delve a little. Most importantly though is the scintillating acidity, power and clarity of these whites.
