Emrich-Schonleber-Monzinger Fruhlingsplatzchen Riesling Spatlese 2016

After a relatively warm winter, March and April brought rather average temperatures. In the morning of April, 25th, frost of -2.5°C caused the buds to freeze in a large part of Monzingen's vineyards. Fortunately, the side buds sprouted quickly afterwards, so that their grapes could still reach the necessary ripeness. However, the quantity was greatly reduced. June brought abundant rainfall, which made plant protection a challenge. We mastered it - most of our vineyards survived this critical phase without significant damage. The following warm and dry months from July to September ensured an almost ideal state of health for the vines. The grapes remained very healthy until the end of October, enabling us to harvest late at cool temperatures. Due to the dry late summer the must weights remained somewhat lower than usual and nevertheless the grapes were very ripe and aromatic. The 2016 wines reflect this. Lightness meets richness of aromas. Especially our village wines (Frühtau, Halgans, Kabinett) show this impressively, with incredible elegance and precision.
